David Cardwell is a highly experienced and respected figure in the global film, television and licensing sector.  He is regarded as a leading marketing innovator with commercial negotiating skills.

David’s early career saw him gaining management experience in producing theatrical stage productions creating the first large scale children’s shows in conjunction with Moss Empires, then owners of the London Palladium, as well as many provincial theatres.

Having created a successful theatre production company, he then formed an artiste’s representation agency together with hit song writer Tony Macaulay, subsequently managing and marketing several hit artistes.

David also conceived in the early 1970’s the concept of talking books (record and cassette), and through a joint company with the Enid Blyton Estate, the product went on to sell over 22 million copies.

In 1974 he co-founded with Richard Culley, Copyright Promotions, one of the first independent licensing companies in the UK, marketing the intellectual property rights for an enviable portfolio of properties such as Noddy, The Famous Five, Spiderman, Mr Men, Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, Star Wars, Star Trek, Teenage Mutant Turtles, Dennis the Menace and many others.  MGM, Paramount, Sony, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal, Lucasfilm etc, were just some of the Copyright clients

David led the sale of CPG to a conglomerate, Mosaic Investments Plc in 1986 and went on to launch the first pan-European licensing group as part of an enlarged CPG in conjunction with the leading German media conglomerate, the Kirsch Group.

In 1994, David played a key role in the flotation of CPG out of Mosaic and the subsequent successful sale to ISMM, the global sports rights group.  Within ISMM, David led the development within CPG of a sporting rights agency securing exclusive worldwide licensing rights to such key sporting tournaments as the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the 1999 Cricket World Cup, and the Euro 2000 Football Championships, as well as exclusive representation of the English Cricket Board and the Rugby Football Union.

Following the highly publicised failure of ISMM, David led the MBO of CPG as an independent group backed by ProVen Private Equity and stayed on as non-executive Chairman for a period until 2004 when he finally stepped down and formed Cardwell Consultancy to advise companies in the media & marketing sectors.
